We work in the human services, education, health, transport and infrastructure, regional development, disability and environment sectors. Because social policy problems are complex and interconnected we often work with stakeholders across the sectors to develop and review cross-agency, whole-of-government and integrated policies and programs.

Environment and Climate Change

Our work in the environment and climate change sectors is focused on the development of monitoring and evaluation frameworks for and evaluations of local, state and national programs in waste management and circular economy, water and land management, biosecurity and pest animal management, biodiversity, climate-change mitigation and adaptation, environmental research and energy efficiency.

Communities and Justice

Our origins in the early 1990s were in child wellbeing, justice and community safety. We continue to deliver insights to decision makers in these areas, from local government crime prevention and social inclusion strategies to the development and evaluation of state-wide and inter-agency programs providing targeted early intervention and tertiary responses to domestic and family violence, youth justice programs and system reform.

Disability

Our approach to working in the disability sector reflects the principle of ‘nothing about us without us’, ensuring people with disability lead. We embed the perspectives, priorities, and lived experiences of the sector into our work. Our evaluations have ranged from the development of regulatory systems to support the National Disability Insurance Scheme, evaluations of early intervention initiatives, and co-design and co-delivery of evaluations with people with disability. We also co-design services and develop disability inclusion action plans.

First Nations

We are committed to giving voice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities in research and evaluation. We have a deep level of expertise and cultural competence in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities, drawing on our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander associates to lead project design and engagement. Our work ranges from grassroots, capacity-building partnerships with Aboriginal organisations, to state-wide evaluations of targeted programs and national monitoring and evaluation frameworks.

Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

We bring a strong focus on the voice of lived experience to our work in the mental health and suicide prevention sectors, working with lived and living experience researchers using a lived experience evaluation framework that we co-developed. Community, Wellbeing and Resilience

We work with government, NGOs and community members to co-design community solutions, develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks, and deliver evaluations of programs and services that support community wellbeing and resilience. Legislation and Regulation

From cemeteries to motor sport, early childhood to universities, employment, aged care and disability we bring specialist capability for some of the biggest (and smallest) regulatory reforms in Australia over the last 10 years. In regulation there is always a common concern, the behaviour of regulated entities. We bring specialist capabilities in regulatory theory and how it can be applied in complex governance settings in a resource-consuming world.

Domestic and Sexual Violence and Abuse

Our work in the domestic and family violence, and sexual violence and abuse prevention sectors spans from policy programming to systematic evaluation. We work sensitively and ethically with victim survivors (adults and children), and people who use violenceas well as frontline workers, wider community and sector stakeholders, from government agencies to police, courts and funded support services working in the community and in correctional settings. We bring expertise in inter-jurisdictional and inter-agency programs, technology-facilitated abuse and the social and cultural factors shaping use and experiences of violence and abuse.

Disaster Management

We work with the disaster management sector to monitor and evaluate disaster response and recovery programs, from legal support programs to large DRFA-funded financial supports and grant programs. We provide insights to improve implementation to better support those affected by disasters, as well as the efficiency and effectiveness of disaster responses, and which support decision-makers to understand social and economic impacts.
